Maybe, if you knew that he is actually an award winning director, staging comedy in Manhattan Theaters.

Well, not only. Starting his professional directing career in Russia, and working internationally (New York City, Moscow, Berlin), Andre Dion is equally at home in classics (ARISTOPHANES, PLAUTUS, TERENCE, SHAKESPEARE, STRINDBERG, CHEKHOV)  and literary adaptations (DOSTOYEVSKY, BULGAKOV, Th. MANN) as well as musical theatre (VERDI'S NABUKO, EDITH PIAF, DISCO FEVER, A ROCK SHOW) and cotemporary drama. 

He is known for his successful sold out and extended runs (up to 4 years), in venues with up to 3000 seats (709 in NYC), with special performances for ARIANE MNOUCHKINE (Paris), FIFI OSCARD (New York), Mr. DIEPGEN, Mayor of Berlin, Germany.

He studied Stage Directing with ROBERT WILSON, ANATOLI VASILIEV (Larry Sacharow's full page article in the New York Times) and PETER STEIN (Schaubühne Berlin) and Film Directing with WIM WENDERS and ISTVAN SZABO.

Andre Dion (aka Kirchner) is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, the Commercial Theatre Institute Manhattan and the European Film Academy. His production company Seven Tigers produced / coproduced 7 plays in Manhattan.

                    Excerpts from press release:

 

            Enter the world of ALCATRAZ!

            “With a crash, the steel gate slammed shut with a sound that seemed to bring finality to everything.”

            The most notorious federal penitentiary in the history of America knows many personal stories.

            Following the life of an inmate, we’ll meet his buddies – Al Capone (see him loosing it!)

            and Machine Gun Kelly–  as well as some other illustrious characters.

            A few of them try to escape, but NO ONE escapes from Alcatraz!

            The sole purpose of Alcatraz was to degrade, deprive, humiliate and break the inmates physically,

            mentally and spiritually, if possible. In many cases it was remarkably successful.

            But somehow most inmates survived, and even managed to have fun!

 

            The show Alcatraz is a full-length multimedia play for six actors and reciting poet,

             with a funny and dramatic narrative, with poetic elements,

             and an elaborated video, photo and sound design.

             An Equity approved showcase.
